Suzuki is preparing a broader powertrain and vehicle-development push that combines electrification with renewed work on combustion-engine efficiency. The strategy includes plug-in range extenders, modular e-Axles and a target of 24-month development cycles.

According to a report by Carscoops, the company intends to use a light range-extender arrangement alongside more efficient hybrid technology. The approach could give Suzuki flexibility in markets where charging infrastructure and EV demand remain uneven.

Modular e-Axles are set to form a central part of the plan, allowing electric drive components to be adapted across different vehicle applications. Suzuki also identified weight reduction as a priority, an area that can improve efficiency regardless of the powertrain fitted.

The company is not abandoning combustion development. More efficient turbocharged engines are included in the programme, signalling that Suzuki expects hybrid and electrified combustion models to remain relevant while it expands its electric vehicle technology.
