BMW is planning an entry-level electric vehicle for 2028 as part of a broader turnaround strategy built around the Neue Klasse generation of cars, according to a report by InsideEVs.
The proposed model would give BMW a more accessible point of entry in its next EV architecture, a significant move as established premium manufacturers face mounting pressure to lower battery-electric vehicle prices without diluting margins or brand positioning.
Neue Klasse is central to BMW's future product direction, with the programme intended to underpin new electric models and technologies. An entry-level vehicle scheduled for 2028 would extend that strategy beyond the larger, higher-priced vehicles that typically lead premium EV launches.
The turnaround plan also includes a large gasoline-powered SUV for the US market. The two-model approach highlights BMW's effort to address sharply different regional demand patterns — expanding its electric offering while retaining combustion-engine products where they remain commercially relevant.
