General Motors has confirmed that its Spring Hill facility will mass-produce lithium-manganese-rich, or LMR, battery cells. The decision gives the company a defined manufacturing base for a battery chemistry central to its future electric-vehicle plans.
The announcement marks a move from battery development towards industrial production. GM has not used the confirmation to outline vehicle applications, timing or cell specifications.
LMR cells are positioned as a next-generation alternative within GM's EV battery programme. The chemistry's name reflects its lithium- and manganese-rich composition, while the production decision underscores the importance of securing scalable battery manufacturing in North America.
The Spring Hill confirmation was first reported by InsideEVs. For EV buyers, fleet operators and industry suppliers, the key development is that GM has now attached a production site to its LMR-cell ambitions.
